Beautiful Basement Finishing in Concord
This remodeling project for Milton Construction services took place for some neighbors in Concord, between our service area of Appomattox and Lynchburg. This basement finishing project was for a brand new home with just concrete walls, concrete floor, and exposed framing on ceiling.

We entered the design phase so that our clients can visualize the final finished basement project. We strove to do as much of the planning work as possible up front, so that once the job was started, it could run along smoothly and be completed in a timely manner with as few delays as possible.
It was now time to get to work. We began with the empty space showing all of the owners’ tools. The corner of the basement was specifically designed to be the workshop area. The owner is an engineer and has a LOT of tools! That is followed by us showing the framing in process in the workshop area.
We typically add a framed wall inside the foundation wall leaving a small gap so the lumber does not touch the concrete. This also allows for further insulation to be added within the walls. Fortunately in this case, the plumbing for the bathroom area was already roughed in so we did not have to bust up the concrete floor - which is very loud and messy.
This new home was built using floor trusses which creates an ideal scenario for finishing the basement with no support columns in the way. Also, electrical, plumbing, etc. can be tucked up into the truss webbing allowing for a relatively smooth drywall ceiling. You see the shower in place already before it gets closed in with more walls.
The finished basement is completed. We begin by going down the stairway.
Now we welcome you to the new finished basement that created a large open feel while still concealing the "homes" utility areas. Large French doors were added for plenty of access to the workshop behind.
Living space includes a new bedroom.
We also added a new Bathroom.
We utilized all available space by incorporating this custom built-in linen cabinet in the new bathroom. It conceals the sewage pump, yet allows for easy access to service it. We show another example of creating extra storage space where possible with a 2nd custom built-in.
We appreciated the way Todd and team went about the planning aspect of our basement project. I felt much better about the quotes knowing they came after detailed plans were made of the build out, sourcing fixtures, and really working through how things would come together. We only left a few things with allowances, and that helped with the schedule and cost stability.
The quality of everything was exceptional, and it was great to come downstairs each day to see the progress. We had many opportunities to check how things were and make specific decisions on placement of items, fit out, and the little details all along the way. I was able to run some network cable while everything was still exposed, and it all came together in the end. We also were very impressed with the suggestions made by Domenic and the team to create beautiful and functional solutions to challenges like hiding the sump pit and water heater.
The team was so professional and personable. We enjoyed interacting with them occasionally and felt very comfortable having them in our home.
Communication was also important to us and Domenic called at least once a week to keep us updated on progress and expectations.
We would definitely call Milton first on another project
