Forest Finished Basement with new Kitchen by Home Remodeler

Beautiful Basement Finishing Near Forest

This remodeling project for Milton Construction services took place for some neighbors near Forest. Each basement finishing project is unique and this one certainly took the cake. It is a very large home, and the owners were looking to move their mother and her husband into the large finished basement area from out of state. However, there was no kitchen in the basement. We designed and built a new kitchen into the already finished basement area. This was a plumbing challenge as we did not want to disturb the finished flooring, etc. We ended up installing a pump under the kitchen sink that drains into the drains that were “readily available” in the ceiling area.

This project was completed in 2023 for approximately $140,000 – $154,000. Based on current labor, material, permitting, and market conditions, a similar project in 2027 would typically fall between $188,000 – $208,000.

The investment range provided is intended as a historical reference. Similar projects completed in the future may differ based on design complexity, material selections, local market conditions, permitting requirements, and construction costs at that time.

How long did this Basement Finishing project take?

The design process spanned two months.

The construction phase took approximately four months.

Homeowners considering a similar project should understand that timelines can vary significantly based on scope, permitting requirements, engineering needs, custom product lead times, and overall market conditions at the time of construction.

Were there any construction challenges that affected the Basement Finishing project?

A key construction challenge was creating a complete kitchen within a basement that was never originally designed for one.

The team had to identify a suitable layout, accommodate appliances and cabinetry, and connect new plumbing lines to existing plumbing located several rooms away above a finished ceiling.

Careful planning and execution were required to bring modern kitchen functionality to the space while preserving as much of the existing finished basement as possible.

What were the decisions that contributed to the success of this Basement Finishing project?

This project began with a large home that already had a beautifully finished basement.

As the owner’s mother prepared to move to the area and live in the lower level, the family recognized the need for a complete basement kitchen to create a more independent and comfortable living environment.

The new kitchen was designed with warm hickory cabinetry and topped with an impressive extra-thick granite countertop, creating a space that is both practical and visually striking.

We entered the design phase so that our clients can visualize the final finished basement project. We strived to do as much of the planning work as possible up front, so that once the job was started, it could run along smoothly and be completed in a timely manner with as few delays as possible. We were pleased to have yet another great project working with Elm Home Design for design, cabinets, and countertops.

Now it was time for the actual construction to take place. Here are two of the more dramatic images that allow you to see the room just starting construction and after the kitchen was taking shape.

Now we welcome you to the new finished basement beginning with a 5 burner gas cooktop. Kitchen Remodeling is one of our specialties so it is exciting to focus on this area within the project. Our client’s taste was very “rustic”. They actually drove to our cabinet facility in Pennsylvania and took a tour. They landed on a Knotty Hickory cabinet which turned out great! A double-thick and chiseled edge on the granite countertops added to this effect.

Some modifications in adjacent areas of the basement were also requested, adding doors that also carried this hickory look. Some very creative painting work was performed to add this hickory faux-finish to the doors and mouldings. And we had a leftover area put to creative use as a decorative nook.
