Newly Finished Custom Home in Appomattox
This featured project is a custom home build for one of your neighbors in Appomattox. We captured all aspects of the design process, clearing the land, making a foundation and the actual build process. Let’s walk you through the entire story from vision to completion.
In March of 2019, Mrs. Walker contacted our office after having found us online. She had owned property in area for several years and recently moved to the area full-time. Now it was time to build a house.
We helped her overcome several obstacles almost simultaneously. First, she did not have any house plans—only ideas. Working under a Design Agreement, we had several meetings with our draftsman, and after several revisions, had construction plans for her new home (see below). Secondly, we were able to provide her with a connection at our local bank to obtain extra financing for the construction.

Also, the property was heavily wooded. While we were working out all of the final details concerning selections for the new home, we were able to do the required excavation work and clearing required to have sufficient space to build. Most of the trees were taken to a local mill where they were turned into OSB plywood-type sheathing and, more than likely, later returned to the property as useful building materials!

We are very proud of the extended review that follows at the bottom. It includes, “I researched construction companies in the central Virginia area, and selected Milton Construction because of their proven professionalism and verified work successes. I can say honestly, it is beautiful beyond all my dreams.”

The process from the initial phone call until we were ready to build the house took from March to July 2019. Construction was officially completed in March 2020 with the final details of sowing grass seed and a few other finish details. From the first phone call, with no house plans and acres of trees, to “here are the keys to your new home” took exactly one year.
I researched construction companies in the central Virginia area, and selected Milton Construction because of their proven professionalism and verified work successes. The result of that choice has brought me much more than a cut and dried business arrangement. I did select the best company.
From our first meeting Todd Milton and his team of professionals worked out exactly what I was looking for. We talked about the lot and how to clear what trees and brush, and how much it would cost and how to finance the whole project. I appreciate how each question I had was answered before I asked it. I was never dismissed or made to think I had a dumb question. Todd or his deputy called me back within minutes; or one of them called if they had a question for me.
Over the eight or nine months we worked together, I came to depend on them. Not only did they build my home, but they referred me to many other professionals whom they had worked with over the years for me to choose from. Todd was not selecting his friends only, but referred me to several folks in different businesses for me to choose from.
Todd was aware I didn’t want a clear-cut lot, and took great pains to save trees. It’s beautiful.
Todd’s team is professional and they are long-time colleagues, celebrating mutual trust among themselves. Todd mentions each one’s area of expertise. They are a team. I saw the home at strategic times, in various stages of completeness, and was dazzled at each stage.
I can say honestly, it is beautiful beyond all my dreams, thanks to God and Milton Construction! The paint inside is called “Praise Gray,” a color I described to Todd, had seen in another home but couldn’t find on paint charts. Todd found it in 30 seconds.
I am excited to have this home and want to have a house blessing as soon as we can all mingle. I made the right choice with Milton.
